sandalwood perfume

Sandalwood

Native to India, Sandalwood is a shrub whose bark and roots are distilled into powder to obtain an essential oil with a milky, sweet, balmy and warm scent. Sandalwood Albanum from India, and more precisely from the region of Mysore, is considered the most refined, for its particularly rich and complex scent, but it is now in danger of extinction, so that generally, sandalwood used in perfumery comes from Indonesia, New Caledonia, Australia or Sri Lanka. In the world of perfumery, it is used as a base note in woody and oriental perfumes, for both men and women, to which it brings roundness and sensuality.

Scents

Spicy

Spicy notes are divided into two categories: cold spices (cardamom, ginger, pink berry, pepper, juniper berry, coriander seed...) rather used as a top note to give the perfume some lift, and hot spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, saffron...) essentially used as a heart or base note. They are found in many perfumes, all families included.

Stéphanie de Bruijn

Stéphanie de Bruijn grew up in the Grasse region and it was in this place, with its distinctive scents, that she fell in love with perfume and what it represents. From an early age, she learned to recognize perfumes and make them her own by becoming an Artisan Parfumeur. Having found and adopted the city of Paris, it was in her heart that she developed her activity there, in 2008. In her laboratory in l'Université Street, the creator put her know-how to service for each composition and of each personality who crosses the door and enters her universe. From perfumes made-to-measure to the collection of her perfumes, Stéphanie de Bruijn offers a complete range to her customers.

This passion for the Art of perfumery combined with her scientific know-how, won her the International Perfumer Competition of the prestigious ISIPCA school in 2001, with her signature perfume "Poignées d'Amour". This art that characterizes niche perfumery is that of assembling and of finding the right harmony in the richness of fragrances, to achieve the creation of exceptional products.

The art that characterizes Parfumerie de Niche is that of blending, of finding the right harmony in the richness of fragrances to create exceptional products.

“  I am a Nose. I've always loved perfume. For me, perfume is a reflection of personality; It expresses everything about the person wearing it while retaining a part of mystery.”

The Different Company

The Different Company

by Jean-Claude Ellena, Thierry De Baschmakoff et Luc Gabriel

For centuries, luxury has been synonymous with scarcity, quality, precision, and inaccessibility. But little by little, it became popular, becoming more and more accessible and standardizing the offer. The Different Company was born within this century, in a context where perfume lovers are turning away from the novelties of the big brands, which tend today to create juices intended to please the greatest number.

Based on this observation, The Different Company’s first creations appeared, developed by Jean Claude Ellena and Thierry de Baschmakoff. Not imposing costs or codes limits, exploring new territories, demanding excellence in raw materials and sillages, working with talented perfumers of international renown, expressing a signature luxury design: this is the vision of The Luxury Perfumery of The Different Company.

In 2004, after Jean Claude Ellena’s departure, Luc Gabriel took over The Different Company to carry the DNA and the development of the brand. This Perfume Enthusiast knows this universe well for having grown up around a family perfumery business held by his mother. Today, The Different Company does not cease to challenge itself in order to create "Made in France" olfactory compositions, which are always more surprising and elegant than the last, and this, in a context of creation always so exceptionally free. The Different Company is the representation of an unconstrained spirit.

Most of the time, the design of a perfume bottle stays in our memory as much as the scent of the perfume itself. Sometimes it is a simple containing, sometimes it is a real work of art, it reflects the beauty of the perfume which is contained in it. This idea is at the heart of our House’s DNA, whose unique design is signed by Thierry de Baschmakoff. For our Haute Parfumerie House, Thierry has imagined a bottle with an unscrewable pump to allow you to refill this luxury item which should not be thrown, a glass bottle with a fire-polished surface for more smoothness, of high quality, with a real platinum screen-printing. Exclusively for The Different Company, he designed a unique cap with a recognizable structure, a solid 3-level solid chromed metal cap, the signature of our brand. The bottle cap, developed in Paris by a master goldsmith, was shaped after the dome of the Grand Palais in Paris. The perfume bottle, with its angled edges, is made by a master glassblower based in Normandy. Re-burnt after being fabricated, it holds unique transparency and brilliance, which enables it to enhance the color of the fragrance it contains.

Tobacco

Tobacco is a plant cultivated mainly in France and the United States. After a drying phase, the leaves are extracted with a volatile solvent to obtain an absolute with honeyed, smoky, woody and straw-like facets, which blends particularly well with tonka bean and vanilla.

Tuberose

Originally from Mexico, nowadays cultivated mainly in India and Grasse, tuberose is a white flower with honeysuckle, green, earthy, creamy and slightly medicinal facets. Very heady, it can be found in soliflores or mixed with other white flowers in floral or oriental perfumes.

In the 16th century in Italy, young people were forbidden to walk in tuberose gardens in the evening, for fear that the scent of these flowers would arouse their desire.

Unum

Unum

UNUM, created by visionary Filippo Sorcinelli, is far more than a perfume house—it’s an artistic and spiritual journey expressed through scent. Sorcinelli, a renowned organist trained at the Conservatory "G. Rossini" and the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, is a true multidisciplinary artist. As the founder of LAVS, an atelier specializing in liturgical garments, he has designed ceremonial attire for several popes, including for the inaugural mass of Pope Francis in 2013.

Through UNUM, Sorcinelli brings his unique universe to life, where music, spirituality, and art converge. Each fragrance, inspired by mysticism and the intangible, invites you to explore deep, boundless emotions. UNUM is for those seeking a truly unique olfactory experience, where every scent is a timeless work of art.

Valentine's Day

Note Vanillée Nectar, M. Mikallef, 30ML at Hparfums in Canada

Vanille

It is a fruit that comes from an orchid native to Mexico was used by the Mayas and Aztecs for its aphrodisiac and energizing properties in "xocoatl", a beverage made from cocoa beans. Today, it is mainly cultivated on the Reunion Island, in Madagascar and in Indonesia. It is only after having dried for 9 to 18 months that it develops a complex perfume with spicy, smoky, sweet and woody facets.

This raw material is found in oriental perfumes, although it is often supplemented or replaced by vanillin, its main molecule that smells like vanilla sugar, as it is more economical.

Vetiver

Originally from India, vetiver is now mainly cultivated in Haiti (about 80% of world production), although it is also cultivated in India, China, Indonesia, Reunion Island, Madagascar, and Brazil. The interest of this herbaceous plant, which resists the most extreme climates, lies in its roots: deeply rooted in the ground, they have a woody, earthy, green, dry and sweet smell that makes vetiver a must for woody and oriental perfumes. For a long time, vetiver was only used in masculine perfumery, but it is now found in many unisex and feminine compositions as well.
